Evan Pugh (1729-1802) was of Welsh descent. He was born in Matachin, Pennsylvania and moved at a young age to Winchester, Virginia. As a young man, Evan moved to North Carolina and later to South Carolina where he became a minister and was influential in the community of Long Bluff, South Carolina. He married Martha 'Patty' Magee and they were the parents of three children.
