I have been working at Ideal Concepts as a contractor (More than a year)
Pros
1 -Ideal Concepts hires Insurance Agents on a 1099 captured-agent contract, with American Insurance Organization, which means you are self-employed. The contract gives clear expectations that are not hard to achieve. If you can't meet the minimum expectations, then you are not putting in enough effort. The leads are there and the clients are ready to buy the top-of-the-line products you will have to offer. You just need to find them the right product(s) and make the sale.
2 -I work from home on my own time, which works with my lifestyle. Also, because the position is remote, I can take my laptop to anywhere I travel with an Internet connection and can do my job.
3 -We have a supportive training team, compliance, and licensing departments. In addition, the software system we use for calls gives us FREE leads and tracks appointments, quotes, application submissions, and sales. Finally, we have a weekly training meeting where we learn more about the products, who are the top agents, new contests, and improvements or changes being made overall.
4 -Even though I am self-employed, I never feel alone. Sam Mishriky is my Sales Manager and he is available anytime I need him. If for some reason, he is going to be out of the office, he will let the team know what other Sales Managers will be available for us while he is gone. There is a daily helpdesk link that you will have access to as well, in case you have a question or problem, that is always being monitored by the Sales Management team.
5 -The different carrier products that we sell each have their own contests going on each month, every other month, or every quarter which incentivizes us to win cash bonuses, prizes, and even vacation specials.
Cons
I would not say these are cons but, rather, expectations that you will need to keep in mind in order to build your business as an Independent Insurance Agent.
1 -Just like with any self-employed company, you will need to be prepared to invest in yourself in the beginning. Because you are 1099, you will need to be prepared to pay for your state licenses, your Error & Omissions Insurance coverage(s) necessary, and all licensing portal and appointment fees. As you are earning money, you need to buy yourself more state licenses and carrier appointments so that you can have the maximum opportunity to earn. The business expenses you pay out is totally worth it though because you have the opportunity to earn plenty enough income to help pay these costs. Plus, business expenses are a tax write-off.
2 -Also, you will need to do your training and re-certification (for Marketplace, Covered California, Connect4Health Colorado, and each carrier insurance you offer) annually and your resident state license continuing education every 3 years as well.
3 -Furthermore, learn your products inside and out so that you understand what health and life insurance plan(s) your clients will qualify for before you submit their application(s).
4 -Get to know your client's health care history and/or life needs, current needs, and future needs so that you can recommend the best solution for the products that you offer. This is not hard to do considering that you will have access to a team site that gives you all the tools you need to make this happen.
5-Chargebacks do happen. When clients have decided to take another insurance, they may cancel what you sold them and chargebacks are removed from your commissions. However, as long as you keep selling new insurance plans, you will earn way more than you get in chargebacks so this won't be a problem.

Keep up the great work by collaborating with your teams! I love how when ideas are brought forth for improvement, the Sales Managers are talking about how to put this into action fairly quickly. This company wants to get better and has done nothing but make improvements over the past year that I have been here.
