Karen Armstrong OBE FRSL (born 14 November 1944) is a British author and commentator of Irish Catholic descent known for her books on comparative religion. A former Roman Catholic religious sister, she went from a conservative to a more liberal and mystical Christian faith. She attended St Anne's College, Oxford, while in the convent and majored in English.

Karen's life was tragically cut short after being diagnosed with DIPG, or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. DIPG is a type of brain tumour found in an area of the brainstem known as the pons. On Sunday, 4 June 1961 Karen fell while playing in a Seattle park. Her fall resulted in a bloody nose and Karen quickly had trouble controlling her eyes.
